(Basic & Enhanced)

GCC staff knows the importance of taking care of an individual with special needs. That is the priority and with that, basic household chores are placed on the back burner. At GCC, our commitment to service will consist of qualified staff that provides the help a member needs right in their home. Basic household chores are removed from your to-do list and accomplished by compassionate, empathetic well-trained staff.

Basic

GCC staff will complete basic household tasks within the members’ primary residence.  Helping with chores or tasks that can maintain the household. GCC staff will deliver home cleaning services, and while at the home, aid with activities as needed. Services are tailored to specific members within the following types of Homemaker Services.

1. Cleaning bedroom, bathroom, living room, kitchen, and all other areas of the home as needed. This includes dusting, vacuuming, making the bed, picking up clothes, and sorting laundry. Verbal prompts and/or some assistance may be used to help organize and store belongings in the appropriate space.

2. Facilitating laundering process that includes washing drying, folding, and placing clothes in drawers.

3. Disinfecting surfaces such as kitchen counters, tables, chairs, refrigerator, microwave, and the stove when it has cooled and is safe to clean, washing, rinsing, and drying dishes.

4. Assist in keeping walkways and all areas of the home clear of clutter for cleanliness while ensuring all members are healthy and safe.

Enhanced

Enhanced services will consist of the same household tasks as described in basic homemaker services with the addition of either habitation or extraordinary cleaning. Habilitation instructions will include direct training to the member which is more than basic cuing to prompt a specific task. Habitation incorporates a training program with specific objectives and anticipated outcomes. This training focuses on home tasks that the members will be able to do independently.

There may be some incidental basic homemaker services provided in combination with enhanced homemaker services. However, the primary intent will be to provide habilitation services to increase the member’s independence.

Habilitation will include, verbal prompts (staff giving step-by-step instruction), partial physical assistance (staff doing the task with the member) when such support is related to the habilitation services.

Enhanced Homemaker Services include the need for extraordinary cleaning because of the member’s behavioral or medical needs.

The following tasks are available for habilitation:

  1. Cleaning the following areas: bedroom, bathroom, living room, kitchen, and all other areas of the home. This includes dusting, vacuuming, making the bed, picking up clothes, and sorting laundry. This also includes teaching the member organization of belongings by placing the items in tubs, on shelves, or in drawers/closets.
  2. Learning how to do laundry such as placing clothes in the washer and dryer; learning how to hang, fold, and place clothes in drawers.
  3. Learning how to wipe/disinfect surfaces such as kitchen counters, tables, chairs, refrigerator, microwave, and the stove when it has cooled and is safe to clean; learning to wash, rinse, and dry dishes.
  4. Assisting in teaching how to keep all areas of the home clear of clutter and cleanliness for the member’s health and safety.
  5. Assisting in teaching how to clean floors with a properly rung wet mop.
  6. Educating the member on the importance of maintaining a clean home, identifying cleaning products, and proper storage of cleaning products.
  7. Most important, teaching dignity of risk, consequences, and choices in the homemaker process.
